Bridgerton returns with its highly anticipated second season this spring, and fans still can’t get enough of the popular Netflix series and its dashing characters.
Based on the series of novels by Julia Quinn, the series comes from Shonda Rhimes and takes place in Regency-era London amid the ton’s scandal-inducing social season. In the first season, Daphne Bridgerton found love, and in season 2, Anthony’s up next.
But how old are all the characters supposed to be? Which actors and actresses are younger — or much older! — than the characters they play in the series?
From the Duke to the Viscount and everyone in between, we’re taking a look at the character ages from the hit Netflix series, beginning below with season 2’s protagonist, Anthony.
Anthony Bridgerton is both the oldest male and oldest child in the family. As the head of the family, the Viscount takes on a lot of pressure and responsibility. In Bridgerton season 2, Anthony is supposed to be around 30 years old. Jonathan Bailey, the handsome and talented actor who plays him, will turn 34 in April 2022.
Daphne Bridgerton was the focus of the first season of the breakout romantic drama series. She was around 21 years old during her story, and in the second season, she will be at least one year older. In real life, Phoebe Dynevor is 26 and will turn 27 in April 2022.
One of the new lead characters in Bridgerton season 2, Simone Ashley plays the headstrong and independent Kate Sharma. The character is said to be in her mid-20s, though she’s often referred to as a “spinster.” Ashley isn’t older or younger than Miss Sharma, as she will turn 27 years old on March 30 following the season’s release on March 25.
Edwina Sharma, played by Charithra Chandran, is the younger sister of Kate Sharma. She will be looking for her love match in season 2, and she’s supposed to be around the same age Daphne was in the first season.
Benedict Bridgerton is the both the second oldest child in the family and the second oldest male. The character was around the 27-year-old mark in season 1, though he could be a bit older in season 2. Benedict is played by Luke Thompson, who like his on-screen older brother Jonathan Bailey, is 33 years old in real life.
Up next in the Bridgerton line is Colin, who is the third oldest overall. Just older than Daphne, Colin should be around 22 or 23 years old in the second season. The character is played by Luke Newton, who is 29 years old in real life.
Perhaps one of the most extensive age gaps between character and performer is that of the second Bridgerton daughter and fifth child overall, Eloise. The character is supposed to be around 17 years old, but her portrayer Claudia Jessie is actually 31 or 32 years old off-screen. She’s older than Phoebe Dynevor but playing a character younger than Daphne!
Penelope Featherington, our resident ton Gossip Girl otherwise known as Lady Whistledown, is a fan-favorite character and the youngest child in the Featherington family. She’s the closest friend of Eloise and is around 17 years old just like her BFF. What’s more, Nicola Coughlan is actually 35 years old in real life, making for the biggest age difference between character and performer.
Although fans will certainly miss the Duke in Bridgerton season 2, he’s never far from our minds and hearts. In the first season, the handsome Simon Bassett strikes up a romance with Daphne. He’s supposed to be around 29 or 30 in the series, but his off-screen counterpart Regé-Jean Page turned 34 in January 2022.
The youngest male child in the family and the seventh child overall, Gregory doesn’t receive much screen time. His age isn’t immediately apparent, though he’s probably no older than at least 12 or 13 years old. Gregory is played by actor Will Tilston, who is said to be 15 years old in 2022.
The youngest child in the family overall, Hyacinth is played by actress Florence Hunt. Although the character’s age is also not immediately apparent, she’s said to be two years younger than Gregory, which would make her around 11 or 12. Hunt is also 15 in real life.
