The works of Neil Gaiman have translated into successful live-action series like Amazon’s Good Omens, Netflix’s Lucifer, and Starz’s American Gods. Now Netflix will be getting in on all the Gaiman glory with a new series called The Sandman.

In July 2016, Deadline confirmed that Netflix would be moving forward with the series based on Gaiman’s DC Comic from Warner Bros. TV. Gaiman is set to executive produce along with David Goyer, who has worked on several other DC properties, including The Dark Knight, Man of Steel, and Krypton, just to name a few. Allan Heinberg, whose credits include Wonder Woman and Grey’s Anatomy, will be the showrunner for The Sandman series and serve as its writer.

The Netflix original series was slated to begin production in May 2020, but the Coronavirus pandemic delayed those efforts. In the meantime, an Audible version of The Sandman, which utilized the vocal talents of such acting powerhouses as Riz Ahmed and James McAvoy, had been released, raising the anticipation for the Netflix series to an all-time high.

Neil Gaiman announced via his Twitter account that they had begun shooting on October 15, 2020, while also revealing that casting announcements will soon follow.

Now that Netflix subscribers know the series is coming, the question on everyone’s mind is when The Sandman release will be.

The famous story centers on Death’s brother Morpheus’s adventures, who was imprisoned for many years and finally made his escape. He then embarks on a quest to retrieve the stolen artifacts that were taken from him and take back his power. Here’s the official synopsis via Netflix:

"A rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama and legend are seamlessly interwoven, The Sandman follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic — and human — mistakes he’s made during his vast existence."

There is a lot of excitement for this The Sandman series, and fans are very eager to see what the Netflix original will have in store once it finally arrives.
