Travis Kelce has said when he was younger, he wanted to have a haircut like Justin Timberlake. He spoke about how his mom, Donna, helped him get the look he wanted, but it seems he doesnât copy the singer as an adult.
The subject of hair was a popular one this week on the New Heights podcast, which Travis Kelce hosts with his older brother Jason. The brothers talk about their youth and Travisâ obsession with Justin Timberlakeâs hair, as well as the controversy surrounding Travisâ fade after it was claimed he âinventedâ it. Jason, 36, teased his brother about wanting to change up his look, but there is a possibility he couldâve been inspired by a music star.
Travis Kelce âwanted his hair to be like Justin Timberlakeâsâ
On the latest episode, which was released yesterday (February 8) Travis Kelce discussed how Justin Timberlake inspired him in his choice of haircut during the 90s.
However, Jason pointed out it couldâve been Eminem, considering the 34-year-old had wanted to dye it bleach blonde.
Travis said âIt happens more than you thinkâ when it comes to children and teens wanting to look like their favorite celebrities and reeled off some examples.
âLast year, I remember [the] Bryce Harper haircut was popular. The Pay Mahomes has been popular in Kansas City amongst the kids for years.â
âWhat is the Pat Mahomes?â asked Jason. âItâs like a fro-hawk,â Travis responded. âBut it goes all the way down?â Jason asked and Travis clarified it does.
âI mean, I remember when we were kids and I wanted my hair blond like Eminem,â Travis reminisced. âSo mom got the spray on [it].â
âIf you stood outside long enough it turned blond,â Jason quipped, making his younger sibling chuckle. âMan, the 90s baby,â Travis said, âdoesnât get any better baby.â
Jason, however, wanted some clarity. âWas it for Eminem or was it for JT?â he asked. âIt was either him or Justin Timberlake.â
âI think it was JT,â remembered Jason, âJT had the sun and Eminem was like a straight bleach right?â Travis responded: âI donât know,â while laughing. âAlright, me neither,â conceded Jason.
Travisâ controversial fade
In the same episode about his JT-inspired haircut, Travis reaffirmed he was not happy a New York Times article had credited him with âinventingâ the fade and had begun calling it âthe Travis Kelce.â
He called it ridiculous and pointed out the fact the article had been published on the first of Black History Month.
Taylor Swiftâs beau said at a press conference: âItâs ridiculous. I got a good fade if you need it, though. Itâs a two on top and a nice high-to-mid fade with a taper in the back. I didnât invent that. I just asked for it.
âThey throw me into the wolves like that,â Kelce joked.
âThat was messed up, man. I donât want anything to do with that one, man.â
On the podcast, he added: âThanks for whoever wrote this article,â Travis said while not looking best pleased.
âI had more barbers attack me for not even having anything to do with it! Like I didnât want anything to do with this.â
âWhat better month to credit a white man with inventing the fade than February,â Jason said dryly.
âOn the first [of Black History Month], too. I didnât want anything to do with this,â Travis repeated, âI saw this, and I said, âNo, no, no, no, no, no, no. This isnât real. This isnât true.â
However, he did conclude: âI didnât invent the fade, but I know where you can get a good one.â
